CLARK COUNTY DEMOCRATS DELIVER LIST OF THREE NOMINEES TO REPLACE STUART . . . COMMISSIONERS HAVE 60 DAYS TO ACT OR FACE INTERVENTION FROM THE GOVERNOR
Clark County Democratic Central Committee Vice-Chair Liz Campbell delivered the official candidate list for replacing District 3 Commissioner Steve Stuart to the Clark County Commissioners office this morning. Neither commissioner was in the office to accept the letter.
Stuart's resignation today to accept a job as City Manager for Ridgefield leaves his district three seat on the commission vacant for the rest of his term which expires in January 2015. State law requires the local party to submit a list of three ranked choices for the 2 remaining county commissioners to choose a replacement.
Clark County Democrats met on March 28th and by near unanimous vote on the first ballot selected former county commissioner Craig Pridemore as their number one choice.
The remaining commissioners have until June 10th to make an appointment or the Governor will intervene, do their job, and make the choice for them. While the two remaining commissioners, both Republicans, are under no legal obligation to select the first choice, it is a long standing tradition to do so, as was done seven years ago when a Democratic controlled commission selected current congresswoman Jaime Herrera-Buetler who was the local Republican Party's first choice for a vacancy in the statehouse.
