There was a campaign event recently to introduce two new faces to state-level races. I was not the only person in attendance who felt it was actually the most educational event in a long time, if ever, here in Vancouver! They are both professional women with at least 20-years’ experience in their given fields.
Tina Podlodowski is running against Kim Wyman for Secretary of State. The importance of this race is close to my heart, because Secretary of State manages our elections, and I have worked with, watched, and attempted to get help from Kim Wyman for several years as Chair of Clark County Dems Election Observers. In every case, I have found Wyman to be lacking. I have also been in touch with Tina since early 2016 in order to understand her stands on important issues.
Hilary Franz was a completely fresh face for me, so her detailed discussion of just how important the role of Commissioner of Public Lands is, was extremely helpful. Then, as she reviewed her extensive qualifications, the case became quite clear. She is running against Steve McLaughlin, who is a supporter of Bundy and the Malheur gang (enough said?). She has fought ‘coal-by- rail’ and is in agreement with the dangers of oil-by- rail, and understands the importance of the DNR in the approval process.
In order to be brief, I will attempt below to put forth a table of some information from each candidate, which I believe make the decision to vote Democrat in both cases a pretty easy one!
