Trump tax plan disingenuous

Peter Aller

Here's another statement about the flawed Trump tax plan.  Lawrence H. Summers is a Harvard Professor who used to work for Pres Obama.  This op/ed appeared in The Columbian 10/16/17.

Summers is direct in his appraisal.  The tax plan will hurt the country and not help the middle class.

Clark County Democrats Statement: Vancouver Protest

Statement on the Events at the Protest September 10th in Vancouver, Washington

Vancouver (WA) – September 16, 2016

Last weekend, Vancouver, Washington joined the growing list of U.S. cities experiencing some level of violence or threat of violence when protesters and counter-protesters clashed on issues revolving around race, nationalism and religion.

The Clark County Democrats would like to recognize and thank the Vancouver Police Department, Clark County Sheriff’s Department and local officials for their professional, calm and effective handling of what could have become an explosive, perhaps deadly situation.

We also want to state loud and clear that any violence or threat of violence is unacceptable when Americans are exercising their right to peaceably assemble for any reason as protected by the United States Constitution.

Without hesitation, we condemn violence in protests from any group identifying itself as “left” or “right” wing.  We want to be clear that groups like “Antifa” have no association with the local democratic party nor do we support or condone their actions. There is never a reason to justify violence against fellow Americans or vandalism to personal property and small businesses.

That, being said, we are alarmed by the continuing rise in white nationalism and racial tensions which is being contributed to by the president. As recent as yesterday, President Trump was defending his remarks equating the peaceful protesters in Charlottesville with violent Nazi sympathizers. The president’s attitude and words have a great danger of spurring hate groups into further agitation and potential violence. We would ask the president to recall his own tweet from September 2014 quoting Ronald Reagan that “Peace is not the absence of conflict, it’s the ability to handle conflict by peaceful means”.

An apology to Donald for making him lie?!

Peter Aller

Here's a little column by Rex Huppke of the Chicago Tribune published August 23, 2017, and reproduced in The Columbian Sun Aug 27, 2017.  It neatly summarizes many of the most recent lies by Trump and skewers him, as well, referring to him as an "infantile madman" - a succinct, usable reference for sure.

Energetic Dinner! County Fair Next!

The annual Clark County Democrats Gala Dinner and Auction went off without a hitch and with the energetic effort of 250+ attendees.  It was planned to have a smaller, more fun approach to the dinner with lots of different aspects and that was the way it went down.  The venue was charming - a little warm, but not excessive, the speeches were energetic and genuine by Liz Luce, Sen Maria Cantwell, Rich Rogers, Sen Annette Cleveland, and State Chair Tina Podlodowski.

The food was provided by Company Tonight, a Portland catering firm that set up grills outside and provided delicious salmon steaks and flank steaks.  Auction participation was very good.

Now it's time for the annual Clark County Fair.  We Democrats have a booth this year, as usual, to make contact with frustrated citizens.  We have a few 3 hour shifts left to fill and expect there's several of you that would jump at the chance to participate.  Click this LINK to go to a web page showing the open times, and a form below to submit your request to be a Democrat at the Fair.

Remember, Obamacare is a Republican design

Peter Aller

Read the Healthcare column by Eugene Robinson, Washington Post columnist, July 23.  In it Eugene points out many salient points about the current Senate kerfufle including' "Obamacare, you will recall, was once Romneycare; it was fashioned after a system Mitt Romney successfully implemented when he was governor of Massachusetts. It is based on ideas originally developed at the conservative Heritage Foundation, ideas the Republican Party once liked — until President Obama embraced them."  Good stuff - LINK

Sen Maria Cantwell town halls

Peter Aller

Sen Cantwell is doing something not usually done - she's having some Town Halls.  This is unusual because there is so much ground to cover statewide, as compared to other offices, like congressperson (Wait. What?  She doesn't hold Town Halls?)
