Trump's SOTU address met with disdain by Minorities

Giovanna Larrea

Trump said a lot about protecting, unifying, and respecting on Tuesday - and he has never demonstrated any action to lend credence to those ideals. Years ago we had rampant corruption in this country with Tammany Hall in NY, corrupt Chicago dealings, Louisiana Governors Huey P. Long and Edwards, and Nixon's Watergate.  But currently, the Trump ethic is the most obvious example of corruption on display.  Politics is brushed aside and dirty deals in the public's face is the order of the day.  Here's an article from The Columbian describing minorities' view of the lightly veiled comments on the Tuesday speech. - LINK

For an additonal view on how people outside the White House see Trump, read Kathleen Parker's Washington Post (01/26/18) editorial, "What are you hiding, Mr President?"

Governor Inslee rejects Tesoro-Savage Oil Terminal

Giovanna Larrea

On Monday 01/29/18, Gov Jay Inslee announced he will not approve the Tesoro-Savage oil terminal the vendors proposed to be built at the Port of Vancouver.  The terminal had already been rejected by the Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council (EFSEC), and tacitly by the citizens of Clark County when they elected Don Orange overwhelmingly on his anti-oil terminal platform.

The Governor and EFSEC cited similar non-mitigating circumstances leading to their decisions.  They included dangers from seismic risks, oil spills and train wreck risks, and inability to control a fire or explosion.  Read the article and Jay's remarks in the Seattle Times - LINK
